Dejima

Dejima1_000 Dejima was a fan shaped artifical island, located in Nagasaki, used as a Dutch trading post during the Edo period, from 1641 to 1853. It was constructed in 1634, to originally accomodate Portuguese merchants.In 1641 the shogunate ordered the transfer of the Dutch East India Company to this island.
